THE SAFARI DAY BY DAY


Departure day – 26th September

Departure from Gardermoen Airport in the morning at 0630. (flight KL1140) via Amsterdam. Departure from Amsterdam at 1255 (flight KL565) . Arrival Nairobi at 2150.

On arrival you are met by your safari driver guide who are waiting for you at the international arrival wing. We will go directly to our guesthouse and Daniel will give us a short brief before we go to bed.

Day 1, 27th September - Visit children home in Mathare

Today after breakfast we are going to visit Samaritan Children Home in Mathare. This is a home for more than two hundred children under care of Mama Mercy. Help to Selfhelp supports this children home.


On the way back to the guest house we will do sightseeing in Nairobi. In the afternoon we will have early dinner at Four You Restaurant.

Day 2, 28th September - Kitui

After breakfast at 7 am we leave the guesthouse at 8 am and drive directly to Kitui via Machakos town. On the way, you will be passing small-scale farmers. Although this part of the country receives minimal rain. The drive from Nairobi to Kitui town takes about four hours via Machakos town. From Machakos you proceed to Wamunyu where we will have lunch. This town is famous for its carving historic background. The carving industry in Kenya started in this small town of Wamunyu back in 1910, at the time when hunting activities were booming business. Tourism started and the carving business grew. We will stop here to buy souvenirs before we proceed to Kitui town.

 

On arrival in Kitui you will be greeted by the enthusiastic faces of happy locals ready to greet you Jambo, Jambo!!! A Swahili word meaning Hello, Hello! We will do sightseeing by foot in Kitui town. The tour starts from Talent Hotel where some of the group will stay.


After sightseeing we will drive 13 km out of town to our guesthouse in Katulani village for dinner and relaxation by the bonfire. Peninah and her assistant will make sure you have everything you need. Those who are staying in town will leave approx 9pm.

Day 3, 29th September - Be an African for a day

We will all meet at Flamingo farm 10.30 where we will have different activities. The program for today is called; Be a Kenyan for a day. That means that you will interact with the locals and learn a little bit about their daily life. Katulani is a small village, very dry and most people live in traditional African huts. They like to have visitors and are very friendly.

Day 4, 30th September - Kitui - Naivasha

After breakfast, we say goodbye to our friends in Kitui and start our drive up to lake Naivasha in Rift Valley. We will have lunch at Chania falls.

Day 5, 1st October – Full day in Lake Naivasha

Today we have a full day in Lake Naivasha. We start before breakfast with a 1 hour guided boat trip on the lake to see hippoes, birds and other wildlife. After breakfast, you can choose to either relax at the swimming pool or to visit Hells Gate National Park.

Day 6, 2nd October  - Maasai Mara

After early breakfast, we start our journey to Maasai Mara National Reserve. Enjoy the drive through wonderful scenery and landscape. We will stay at Enkolong Tented Camp. The camp is not a luxury camp, but has permanent tents with normal beds, water toilets and outdoor showers. The staff is very friendly and the chef make very nice food. Through the night, you may hear the wild animals, which are close to the camp. The Maasai guard is there all night to make sure they not become uninvited guests.

Day 7, 3rd October -  Full day in Maasai Mara

Maasai Mara has the largest conservation of animals in Kenya and in the northern part of the Tanzanian Serengeti National Park. We have a full day in the park and will have picnic lunch in the wilderness. We will be so close to the boarder to Tanzania that you can step over to Tanzania side. You will see the Mara River with hippos and crocodiles. In Maasai Mara National Reserve there is almost a “Big five” guarantee! In the evening, we will sit around the bonfire in our camp. Day 8, 4th October  – back to Nairobi

After early breakfast and check out we will do a morning game drive up to 10 am. We will stop in Narok for our picnic lunch. Back in Nairobi we will visit Karen Blixen Farm and Kazuri beads factory before dinner at Asmara. This last night in Kenya we will stay at Scripture Mission Guesthouse. This is the main-office for Norwegian missionaries in Kenya.

Meals: Breakfast and picnic-lunch (dinner in Nairobi at own cost)


Day 9, 5th October  - Kitengela glass factory and departure day

We leave our guesthouse at 8 am and drive approx half an hour up to Kitengela glass factory. From Kitengela we drive direct to Ole Sereni hotel for lunch. At 20.30 the drivers will take us to the airport. Departure from Nairobi at 2350 (KL566) via Amsterdam.


Meals: Breakfast. (lunch in Nairobi own cost).


6th October  - Home

Arrival Amsterdam at 0710.  Departure Amsterdam at 0920 (KL1143) Arrival Oslo Gardermoen at 1105.

Additional charge for singel room: NOK 2000

 

Included: Air travel from Oslo Airport Gardermoen to Nairobi Jumo Kenyatta International and return, accomodation and meals as mentioned in the program.

 

Entrance-fee to Maasai Mara National Reserve.

 

All travel by car and activities mentioned in the program.

 

Not included: Visa to Kenya USD 50, tip, drinks to the meals. and entrance fees for Hells Gate National Park (Appr USD 30, including driver and guide) .

 

We have to take reservations for variation in the different currencies and other conditions we do not control. There may be minor changes in the program depending on weather conditions, special wishes from the participants, and other issues we can not forsee.
